My name is Chris. I’m an Assistant Professor at the University of Georgia’s School of Social Work, as well as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker.

About me:

In terms of research, I use qualitative and participatory methods to map the impacts of climate/environmental change on mental health. This is a very heated conversation which usually lands on partisan arguments rather than focusing on, you know, reducing suffering. I focus more on the latter, which means “climate change” as a topic is not always at the forefront. Which is more than fine. Anyways, within this area my research focuses on farmer mental health (link), expanding the mental health component of the One Health Framework (link), and rural mental health disparities (link).

I’m working on many projects, including investigating the mental health impacts of nature experiences in military populations, documenting the mental health concerns of Georgian farmworkers, conceptualizing and measuring animal mental health, and using art-based methods as a research analytic tool. In terms of clinical practice, my work is centered around populations with severe and persistent mental health concerns like psychosis and suicidality. I also work occasionally ReBlossom in Athens, GA supporting father mental health (link).
